Applying Dogma and Reason to the Modern Crisis

For nearly two thousand years, the Roman Catholic Church maintained a closely guarded orthodoxy, but for many, it seems as if that was arbitrarily swept away by Vatican II. Who is Griff Ruby? Using pure logic, forensic evidence, and the infallible Magisterial documents of the Church, his work seeks to answer the most difficult questions facing faithful Catholics today

What Reviewers Are Saying

Readers Reflect on the Impact of Griff Ruby’s Theology

Volume II is a more difficult read than the first volume, though it is worth the effort as the author delves into theological issues not explored before the advent of the Crisis in the Church. I am really not qualified to adequately critique the theological reasoning but it does seem to be the first attempt made by any sedevacantist to establish a theological foundation that explains how this Crisis could establish itself in the very seat of the Church in Rome. I am frankly amazed that none of the well-known sedevantist apologists have critiqued this work, whether to support or refute it since they have been calling on someone to truly develop a theological foundation for sedevacantism. This book does so.
I wish I had been aware of this book when it was first published; it would have saved me much frustration looking for the Mass I grew up with. The history here is so thorough, especially the names of those hardy, resourceful men who saved the traditional Mass from extinction. The author clearly analyzes the heretical elements of the Second Vatican Council, leaving no doubt that those hardy, faithful men were needed at this stage in history. I admit to bias as a traditional Catholic myself, though not a sedavacantist. I am grateful to the author for making the position of the sedavacantists clear, as they have been maligned by people either through malice or ignorance. The bibliography will make an excellent resource.
Very, very good book. It took a chapter or two for me to get used to his formatting but I ended up appreciating the usefulness of its systematic rhythm. The book is written from the perspective of the Seat being truly and undeniably vacant, which may be offensive to those who have been solidly conditioned to believe that “sedevacantism is schismatic.” If they can make it through the book, however, readers will glean a greatly improved understanding of this situation the Church is currently in. Ruby doesn’t purport to answer every question, and through the text he even keeps a growing list of real questions that are raised. I have not read the second volume, but I understand it includes some investigation and/or conjecture about these secondary questions that are left open in the first volume. I would highly recommend this book to someone who has been asking the ‘papal questions,’ or else someone who is looking for that “something more” which cannot be given by man-made religions. It is a great book, and I am very impressed.
